Cipriano Piccolpasso is remembered mainly for his work
Li tre libri dell’arte del vasaio [The three books of the potter’s art]
written and illustrated in Castel Durante in 1557. It describes and illustrates the fundamental insight and technical know-how of the Italian faience manufacturers of the first half and middle of the 16th century.
Today the important work is in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (MSL/1861/7446) and has now been made available to view online.
An annotated translation also exists (Lightbown/Caiger-Smith 1980)
