Flowing glaze decoration in CERAMICA CH

Andreas Heege, 2022

Although both techniques were based on “runny” decorations, there were fundamental differences between poured slip and flowing glaze decorations. While the former was created using a slip trailer, the latter was achieved by pouring or splashing various glazes onto the vessel and was therefore closely related to – and sometimes almost impossible to distinguish from – splashed decoration (e.g. in Langnau pottery where a dark-coloured glaze was splashed onto a runny glaze). Flowing glaze decoration was particularly popular in the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries.

French: décor aux coulures glaçurées
