Mould

A mould (or case-mould) is a form taken from a male mould or an original model and used to make several copies of the same object. Moulds could come in one piece or be made up of several sections. They were commonly used to produce figurines, animals (children’s toys), lug handles or fruit-shaped handles. Moulds were also used for jiggering or jollying. The pottery industry also used special moulds made from dry plaster (casting moulds) to cast pottery in serial production. Moulds used by smaller workshops could be made of plaster or fired pottery.
