Roulettes for creating beaded decoration, Kohler pottery, Schüpbach, Canton of Bern.
Roulettes generally consist of a handle with a small “wheel” made from wood, fired clay or metal rotating on a pin at the end of it. When the roulette is rolled over the unglazed and still wet surface of a vessel, the pattern engraved on the wheel is impressed into the clay forming a repetitive relief pattern.
