In common parlance “ceramics” is an umbrella term that denotes all objects made from clay and fired in a kiln, including vessels or crockery, stove tiles, architectural ceramics (roof tiles, bricks, floor and wall tiles, pipes), technical and chemical ceramics (crucibles, laboratory ceramics) as well as special ceramic objects (statuettes, tobacco pipes, marbles, gaming pieces, spindle whorls, loom weights, toy animals).
