Ash (wood ash/plant ash)

Ash is the inflammable non-gaseous residue that is left behind after trees and other plants are burned. Wood or plant ash can be used as a fluxing agent in glazes that are fired at high temperatures (ash glazes). Ash of peat, wood, stone coal, brown coal, charcoal, foliage, crop straw, hay, sawdust etc. can be used in ceramic glazes.
